Ranchi, July 25: The State government school cooks in Godda district today sat on fast unto death against their untimely retrenchment by the education department.

As per their pre-announced programme, District Schools Rasoiya (cooks)Association president Sureshwari Devi and Sushila sat on fast unto death stir near Ashok Stumbh at 1 pm.

‘Dismissal of cooks is arbitrary’

They are protesting against the arbitrary dismissal of cooks and ‘sanjoyika’ by the district education officer without any reason. 6600 cooks are working in schools of Godda district.

State office bearer of Jharkhand Schools Rasoiya Association Manoj Kumar Kushwaha said that they will continue to sit on fast unto death till July 28 and at 4 pm of the same day will immolate themselves if the education department fails to take its order back.

Retirement age for cooks is 60

Manoj Kumar Kushwaha said that as per the government contract, cooks and Sanjoyika will work till the age of 60 years. But the Godda education officer has retrenched several cooks at different schools without any reason and recruited others in their places which the state association can’t accept at any cost.

“If any incident happens during agitation the Godda education department and district administration will be responsible for that,” he said.

District vice-president Rekha Devi, district secretary Anita Thakur, CPIML district secretary Ram das Sah, AICTU state vice-president Arun Sahay, Sanjiv Thakur, Rajo Devi, Urmila Devi, Shikha Devi, Fado Devi, Shafiqu Ansari, Ram Pravesh Sah Chaturi Majh and other cooks are sitting at the dharna spot in support.
