Jharkhand News: HURL Sindri, Dhanbad municipality sign MoU for LED streetlighting project

Sindri, July 5:  In a major stride toward sustainable urban development and community well-being, Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL) and the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to install energy-efficient LED streetlights across Sindri town.

The ambitious project, launched under HURL’s Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER) initiative, will illuminate 30 kilometers of Sindri’s roads with LED streetlights and high-mast lighting systems, enhancing safety, energy efficiency, and civic infrastructure. The project is valued at approximately ₹10.29 crore.

MoU Ceremony Marks a Milestone in Public-Private Collaboration

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by key dignitaries including Dr. Siba Prasad Mohanty, Managing Director of HURL; Vice President-HR; Business Unit Head (Sindri); the Municipal Commissioner of DMC, and the Additional Municipal Commissioner. Their presence underscored the spirit of collaboration between industrial and civic institutions for public good.

Lighting the Streets, Greening the Future

The day’s significance extended beyond paperwork. As part of the celebration, HURL hosted a Van Mahotsav — a vibrant tree plantation drive involving employees and dignitaries. This initiative reflected HURL’s commitment to environmental conservation and employee engagement.

Participants were also given specially designed T-shirts, symbolizing unity and environmental consciousness. The event concluded with a guided plant visit, offering guests an opportunity to witness HURL’s operational excellence and commitment to sustainable industrial practices.

Through this initiative, HURL is not just installing lights — it’s igniting a vision of sustainable, inclusive growth. About HURL

Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited is a joint venture company formed by leading Indian Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) to revive fertilizer plants in India. Specifically, HURL was created to revitalize the Gorakhpur, Sindri, and Barauni fertilizer units. The company is a joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), NTPC Ltd., Coal India Ltd. (CIL), and Fertilizer Corporation of India Ltd. (FCIL)/Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation Ltd. (HFCL). Each of the three units (Gorakhpur, Barauni, and Sindri) has a production capacity of 2200 MTPD of Ammonia and 3850 MTPD of Urea, according to HURL.
