Dhanbad, July 23: IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad has jumped to bail out mining-affected underprivileged children and persons of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a Dhanbad-based major subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL).
In this regard, the top brass of IIT ISM and BCCL signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the BCCL headquarters in Koylabhawan.

Dr Rashmi Singh, assistant professor, department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering signed on MoU on behalf of IIT ISM while Bidyut Saha, general manager (corporate social responsibility) signed on behalf of the coal company (BCCL).
On the occasion, Murli Krishna Ramaiah, director personnel of BCCL and Prof Nildri Das, associate professor, department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering were also present with other officials.

IIT ISM faculty members to carry out strategic interventions
Under the MoU, IIT ISM faculty members will carry out strategic interventions through innovative techniques to promote science technology, engineering and mathematics education among the mining projects affected children.
“As part of strategic interventions, IIT ISM will also carry out a pre- and post-impact assessment before beginning as well as after completion of the initiatives,” said Prof Rashmi Singh.
IIT ISM under the leadership of Prof Rashmi Singh has earlier also carried out motivation programmes for students and teachers in government schools based in remote areas of Dhanbad as part of the science and technology department-sponsored projects.
Last week, the Deoghar administration signed a similar MoU with Food Craft Institute (FCI) Deoghar for training of Chitra Mines affected children of the district.
