Dhanbad, Oct 7: Two faculty members from IIT ISM visited the Eklavya Model Residential School in Torsindri, West Singhbhum, on Monday to provide computer training to tribal students.

Capacity building initiative

The visit was part of the capacity-building programme organised by the Center of Excellence for Tribal Development at IIT (ISM).

Led by Prof. Rashmi Singh, the coordinator of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) for tribal development, the team interacted with over 200 tribal students from classes 10, 11, and 12, assessing the training being provided to them as part of the initiative.

Dr. Niladri Das, an associate professor in the Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering (DMS&IE), shared insights with the tribal students about the advantages of IT and computer training in today’s world, emphasizing its importance for career growth and excellence.

During their interaction, Prof. Rashmi Singh and Dr. Niladri Das not only imparted technical knowledge but also offered motivational guidance. They gathered information about the study materials provided to the students as part of the training program.

“The students participated quite enthusiastically in the session and were eager to acquire and apply new skills of information technology,” said Prof. Rashmi Singh. She added that the students seemed satisfied with the high-quality training they received.

Bridging the digital divide

Prof. Singh further noted that the capacity-building training programme is a significant step toward bridging the digital divide, empowering young minds in Jharkhand with essential skills for the modern world.

This ambitious programme includes IT and computer training being provided at a total of seven Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), which includes EMRS Kathijoria, EMRS Basia, EMRS Tasaria, EMRS Salgadih, EMRS Kujra, EMRS Torsindri, and EMRS Bhognadih, since July 1 of this year.
