Significantly, the police arrested over a dozen drug peddlers after seizing 150 small packets containing the brown sugar worth over Rs 15 lakhs from them.

Drug Seizure and Arrests Made Following Tip-off

“We had received an input that a supplier of the brown sugar is likely to deliver a consignment of the drug to the drug peddlers. Having got the information, we set up a special team which remained ready to act clandestinely. Ultimately, the supplier, later identified as Abdul Hamid, arrived at the predestined spot where he handed over the consignment. Subsequently, the drug peddlers started packing the drugs in small packets after weighing them in the digital weighing machine the accused had brought along,” said Shibashish while briefing the newsmen at the police office on Friday.
He stated that the police which had been watching the clandestine activities along the Kharkai river, suddenly swung into action and nabbed all the accused, including Abdul Hamid and the lady drug-peddler identified as Nagma Khatoon.
Seized Items and Smuggling Route Revealed
The City SP said the confiscated brown sugar weighed 150 grams, the cost of which was estimated to be over Rs 15 lakhs.
He pointed out that besides the drugs, the police seized eight mobile phones, Rs 7,920 cash, a digital weighing machine and packaging materials from those arrested.
Shibashish stated that Abdul Hamid would smuggle the consignment of brown sugar from Odisha and would reach Parvati Ghaat, having crossed Seraikela- Kharsawan regularly. He pointed out the drugs thus smuggled into the steel city would be sold out to the customers across the city.
