Ranchi, Dec 10: Rabindra Nath Mahato, the JMM MLA representing the Nala Assembly constituency, has been unanimously elected as the Jharkhand Assembly Speaker for a second consecutive term.
Seven panels had proposed Rabindra Nath Mahato’s appointment as Speaker. Both the ruling party and the opposition supported his name for the position.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren first proposed Mahato’s name for the Speaker’s position, with JMM MLA Mathura Prasad Mahato seconding the motion.

Protem Speaker Stephen Marandi held the vote through a voice vote, and with most votes in favour, Rabindra Nath Mahato was elected as the Speaker of the Assembly.
He is the only MLA to be elected Speaker of the Assembly for two consecutive terms, marking a historic achievement.
Rabindra Nath Mahato successfully retained the Nala assembly seat on a JMM ticket, winning against BJP’s Madhav Chandra Mahato by 10,483 votes in the recent elections.
