Jamshedpur, July 23: As part of the ongoing “Safai Apna, Bimari Bhagao Campaign” under Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0, significant progress has been made in addressing the GVP (Garbage Vulnerable Point) issues within the Jugsalai Municipal Council area.

Initiative to tackle improper waste disposal

Today, following the directives of the Executive Officer of Jugsalai Municipal Council, extensive redressal work was carried out at the Bata Chowk GVP Point, located at Chowk Bazaar. This initiative aimed to tackle the persistent problem of improper waste disposal and enhance cleanliness in the area.

Despite repeated efforts by the Jugsalai Municipal Council to maintain cleanliness, the Bata Chowk GVP Point has been plagued by sporadic garbage dumping, which adversely affected the sanitation system and created considerable inconvenience for local residents.

In response, a comprehensive clean-up operation was conducted, which included connecting all shops in the area with a door-to-door waste collection system. The area was thoroughly cleaned, and lime bleaching was applied to disinfect the space.

Additionally, a banner poster was installed to provide general information and guidelines to discourage improper waste disposal.

Loudspeaker announcement campaign

To further bolster public awareness and compliance, a loudspeaker announcement campaign has been initiated in the vicinity, emphasizing the importance of following proper waste disposal practices.

The area is under continuous supervision by the Swachhata Supervisor, with ongoing monitoring facilitated by CCTV cameras.

The Municipal Council appeals to residents and businesses to contribute to a cleaner city by adhering to waste segregation guidelines. They are urged to separate waste generated at home, in commercial establishments, and other institutions into designated compartments for door-to-door collection.

Citizens urged to abide by Jharkhand Municipality Act

Proper segregation of wet garbage, dry waste, domestic hazardous waste, sanitary waste, e-waste, construction debris, coal waste, and soil is essential.

The Council emphasizes that improper disposal, including throwing or burning waste in public spaces, rivers, drains, or roads, is punishable under the Jharkhand Municipality Act.

Non-compliance with these guidelines will result in legal action and financial penalties as stipulated by the relevant sections of the Act.

Present at the event were Jugsalai Municipal Council Executive Officer Rajendra Kumar, City Manager Jyoti Punj, Swachhata Expert Amrita Sakshi, and Swachhata Supervisor Ajay Kumar Singh, all of whom reiterated their commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and sanitation in the area.
