Jamshedpur, Nov 10: A 73-year-old woman, Rita Dutta of Apna Aangan private housing society under Govindpur police station, was robbed of her purse containing cash and vital documents on Monday afternoon.

Unidentified miscreant fled with the purse, which held Rs 52,000 in cash, her voter ID, Aadhaar, PAN card, Bank of India passbook, seven cheque books, and a Samsung mobile phone.

Police said Dutta had withdrawn the cash from the Bank of India Telco branch around 1.40 pm.

She was headed to the Pragya Kendra near former chief minister Arjun Munda’s residence in Ghorabandha to obtain her life certificate when she fell prey to a loot incident.

A boy riding a motorcycle came speeding there and snatched her purse by jerking it out of her hand.

The woman screamed, but the miscreant quickly fled towards Manpita. Later, the police reached the spot.

The matter came to light after Dutta reported the theft to the Govindpur police.

An investigation has been launched, and CCTV footage from the area is being examined to trace the culprits.
