Dhanbad, June 13: Lower performance grading of trackmen deployed at Latehar railway station and Tori Rail Depot of Dhanbad Rail Division of East Central Railway zone has triggered sharp resentment.
Low-performance marks
The East Central Railway Karmchari Union (ECRKU), consisting of 22,000 employees, has charged that following lower performance grading by the Assistant Divisional Engineer, Latehar railway station, and Tori Rail Depot, hundreds of trackmen have been deprived of increment and promotion opportunities.
ECRKU additional general secretary cum Dhanbad Division PNM in-charge Md Ziauddin told media persons that based on the annual performance assessment report, railway employees are given promotions and increments.
As per the Railway Board directive, the concerned official writes ‘Good’ on the assessment report if an employee’s performance is generally found satisfactory.

Extraordinary performance of over 100 trackmen ignored
“But this time, the Assistant Divisional Engineer, Latehar, while brushing aside the extraordinary performance of over 100 trackmen, has given a Lower Grade on their annual performance assessment report. With this remark trackmen have been deprived of increment as well as promotion opportunity,” said Md Ziauddin.
The ECRKU’s additional general secretary said that only 3700 personnel are working against 4600 sanctioned posts of trackmen in Dhanbad Rail Division.
“Surprisingly, due to the hard work of trackmen, the Dhanbad Rail Division has become top among 257 Railway Divisions in the country in freight loading and revenue earning. Still, the railway officer has deprived them of annual increment and promotion avenues by making negative marks on his report,” he said.
ECRKU lodges complaint against Latehar engineer
A delegation of ECRKU under Md Ziauddin on Thursday met the Senior Mechanical Engineer (coordination) of Dhanbad Rail Division and complained about the concerned officer of Latehar Railway station for giving lower grading. The delegation also urged for due respect to the performance of trackmen.
ECRKU assistant general secretary OM Prakash, AIRF zonal secretary OP Sharma, Barkakana branch secretary Mahendra Prasad Mahto, and media in-charge Nil Kamal Khawas were members of the delegation.
