PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, July 3: In a significant administrative overhaul aimed at strengthening law and order and enhancing administrative efficiency, East Singhbhum Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Piyush Pandey transferred and reassigned 15 police officers and station in-charges across Jamshedpur.

The order in this effect was issued late last evening.

Additionally, two officers have been relieved of their current posts and closed to the police lines.

The transfers include officers ranging from Circle Inspectors to Cyber and Traffic Police Station heads. The SSP has termed this reshuffle as a step toward improving police accountability and optimizing the efficiency of the force.

“This decision was taken after assessing the working style and performance of officers. Where necessary, changes have been made to ensure better law enforcement and utilization of officers’ capabilities,” SSP Pandey said.

Why the Reshuffle

Sources indicate that the reshuffle was necessitated by a spurt in criminal incidents, declining grassroots policing, delays in complaint resolution, and growing public dissatisfaction in several police station areas.

Feedback from citizens played a significant role in shaping this decision.

Two officers – Pawan Kumar (Sunder Nagar) and Vivek Kumar Pandit (Birsanagar) – have been closed to police lines amidst multiple complaints against them, including negligence in patrol duty, not registering FIRs, and ignoring public concerns. While no official statement has been released yet, departmental inquiries are reportedly underway.

SSP Pandey further said, “Law and order lapses will not be tolerated in any police station. Officers who perform will be rewarded with trust and responsibilities, while the non-performers will be made accountable.”

Public Engagement and Monitoring to Be Stepped Up

All newly posted officers have been instructed to engage directly with the public within a week and take decisive action against criminal elements. Senior officers have also been tasked with monthly reviews of police station functioning.

This sweeping administrative reform is being viewed as a critical step toward restoring public confidence in the police machinery.

Its success now rests on the proactive and transparent functioning of the newly posted officers.
