THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Daltonganj, March 4: After Vote A Thon, the # I am VerifiedVoter campaign was held today in the Shivajee Maidan in Daltonganj.

It was an elegant programme that started with a shocking revelation: the voting percentage in Palamu was far below the national average and the state average percentage. The speakers reminded the gathering to pull up the voting percentage.

However, pulling up the voting percentage looked like a challenge. The administration is toying with every conceivable idea of its enhancement. Its programmes draw good gatherings, but its conversion into polling will be seen on the polling day.

It held the ‘Mehndi cum Rangoli’ show to impress woman voters. Many women and girls had their hands full of sloganeering for voting. The slogans were bright.

Students of Green Valley International School here had fantastic posters, which delighted the district election officer Shashi Ranjan, DC, so much that he asked his officials to ‘get all posters of this school for its further display at other places.’

The school team felt proud that their posters for voting were going to be used in other similar functions.”

There was a quiz. The questions asked were tough, such as at what minimum age can one become the Prime Minister of India? There came just one correct answer.

Another question was about who the district election officer Palamu is. Here, a girl stood to say Ravi Kumar; perhaps she meant K Ravi Kumar, the chief electoral officer.

It chuckled the district election officer Palamu Shashi Ranjan most. He felt sad when no one stood up to answer the complete form of the EVM. There was just one who, in a couple of attempts, could explain the full form of the VVPAT. NOTA was described very correctly.

A 10-minute street play was held where a husband and wife have different opinions on voting, but their son and some civil society activists made them understand the importance of voting.

The gathering was told of ECI’s Know Your Candidate. This will tell electors about the disposition of the candidate and also about his cash, ornaments, etc.

The Voter Helpline App was publicised, and the gathering was told to ensure their names were in the electoral rolls. It’s pre-voting ascertaining that comes quite handy at booth level or individually.

Additional Collector Kundan Kumar said his voters were verified through this SVEEP programme.

DDC Ravi Anand said, “We believe electors will come out of their homes to cast votes.”

City Commissioner Md Jawed Hussain said, “We need to improve our poll tally this time. It is the lowest so far. It will be made the highest.”
