Dhanbad, May 24: After a year-long silence, JDU MLA from Jamshedpur West, Saryu Roy, has once again launched a scathing attack on Dhanbad BJP MP Dhulu Mahto. Addressing the media at the Dhanbad Circuit House on Friday evening, Roy accused Mahto of forcefully grabbing villagers’ land during his tenure as Baghmara MLA and constructing walls higher than prison boundaries to secure the encroached area.

“Villagers in Baghmara are living in fear due to Dhulu Mahto’s actions. Now that he is an MP, the affected people feel helpless,” said Roy. Expressing solidarity with the aggrieved villagers, Roy declared, “I will stand with them in their agitation and help them reclaim their land.”

Political Feud Rekindled After Lok Sabha Elections
The conflict between Roy and Mahto reignited in 2024 during the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections. At the time, Roy, then an independent MLA from Jamshedpur, was under pressure from local residents to contest the Dhanbad seat, intensifying tensions with Dhulu Mahto, who was BJP’s Baghmara MLA.
Though the verbal spat between the two leaders eventually subsided after Mahto’s election as MP and Roy’s induction into the JDU, the latest remarks suggest that the rivalry is far from over.
Rai Accuses BCCL CMD of Targeting Advocate Linked to DA Case
MLA Saryu Roy also took aim at Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) CMD Samiran Dutta, alleging bias in the company’s recent anti-encroachment drive in Katras. He claimed that the campaign specifically targeted Advocate Somnath Chatterjee, a vocal critic of MP Dhulu Mahto.

“BCCL’s encroachment drive in Sijua Colony started with the demolition of Advocate Chatterjee’s government quarter and ended with the razing of his private home. Who ordered this campaign, and why did it stop after targeting him?” Roy questioned, implying the action was politically motivated.

DA Case Hearing Approaches
Advocate Somnath Chatterjee had filed a writ petition in 2016 in the Jharkhand High Court, alleging disproportionate assets (DA) against then-MLA Dhulu Mahto. The case is scheduled for hearing on June 16, with senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan representing Chatterjee in court.

Roy’s renewed offensive signals his continued interest in holding Dhulu Mahto accountable, both politically and legally, as tensions between the two leaders escalate once again.
