Dhanbad, March 11: A surprise inspection by a high-level district administration team led to the recovery of three mobile phones and related accessories inside the Dhanbad Divisional Jail. The operation, conducted late Monday night into early Tuesday, was aimed at tightening security within the prison.
Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhavi Mishra, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) HP Janardhanan, and other senior administrative and police officials launched the sudden raid around 11:30 PM.
Over the course of two and a half hours, the team thoroughly searched the premises, barracks, and wards. CCTV footage and official registers were also examined.

FIR filed
During the inspection, officials also seized a charger and an earbud from one of the wards. Following the discovery, DC Madhavi Mishra directed the authorities to file an FIR at Sadar Police Station over recovery of mobile phones in jail.
“This was a routine inspection to reinforce jail security. Concerned officers have been instructed to take strict action to ensure a foolproof security system. Under no circumstances will the jail’s security be compromised,” said DC Madhavi Mishra.
Phones Found in Wasseypur Gang’s Ward
Sources revealed that the recovered mobile phones were found in the ward occupied by notorious Wasseypur gang members Godwin Khan and Bunti Khan. Both are brothers of Dubai-based gangster Prince Khan, further raising concerns about unlawful activities within the prison.

Murder Incident Prompted Routine Inspections
Routine inspections in Dhanbad Jail have intensified since December 3, 2023, following the murder of Aman Singh, an accused in the killing of former deputy mayor Neeraj Singh. Aman Singh was shot dead inside the hospital ward of the jail, leading to heightened security measures.
Apart from the DC and SSP, the raid was conducted in the presence of ADM (Law and Order) Piyush Sinha, Superintendent of Police (City) Ajit Kumar, Rural Superintendent of Police Kapil Choudhary, Additional Collector Vinod Kumar, SDM Rajesh Kumar, DSP (Law and Order) Naushad Alam, and officers from various police stations.
