Dhanbad, Feb 19: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Ranchi Zonal Unit, organized a comprehensive awareness program at Birsa Institute of Technology (BIT) Sindri to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse. The initiative aimed to inform aspiring engineers about the harmful effects of substance abuse and the importance of early intervention.

NCB Zonal Director Emphasizes Awareness and Prevention

Abhishek Anand, Zonal Director of NCB Bihar and Jharkhand, led the session and delivered an insightful speech covering various aspects of drug abuse. He highlighted the importance of recognizing early signs of addiction and seeking timely help.

In his address, Anand provided a detailed classification of different types of drugs, explaining their severe physiological and psychological effects. He also outlined the social and legal consequences of substance abuse.

“The main objective of this program is to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse and raise awareness about the types of drugs prevalent in the region,” said Anand.

Discussion on Rising Drug Use Among Youth

The program also addressed the alarming rise in drug consumption across India, particularly among young individuals.

Anand discussed the contributing factors, such as peer pressure, curiosity, and stress, which often lead students toward substance abuse. He urged engineering students to make informed decisions that prioritize their health, well-being, and future.

BIT Sindri Administration Welcomes Initiative

Dr. Ghanshyam, Chairman of the Career Development Centre (CDC) at BIT Sindri, welcomed the NCB team and emphasized the importance of discussing drug abuse with students. He underlined the need for such initiatives to create awareness and prevent addiction among the youth.

BIT Sindri Director Dr. Pankaj Rai, General Warden Dr. R. K. Verma, Dean of Academics Dr. D. K. Tanti, and NCB Assistant Director Rana Pratap Y. Yadav praised the awareness initiative and its potential impact on students. Dr. Rai also felicitated the dignitaries and stressed the significance of organizing such educational programs.

During the closing ceremony, CDC Chairman Dr. Ghanshyam expressed gratitude to all dignitaries and participants for their contributions in making the program a success.

“This program at BIT Sindri stands as a testament to the bureau’s unwavering dedication to empowering youth with knowledge and resources to resist the perils of drug addiction,” said an NCB official.
