PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Oct 10: In a decisive blow to the city’s extortion networks, Golmuri police on Friday arrested dreaded criminal Saurabh Chaudhary, also known as Puran Chaudhary, recovering a country-made pistol and two live .303 cartridges — one of them loaded.

The swift operation, led by Station House Officer Sanjay Suman, was carried out following a tip-off about Chaudhary’s renewed criminal activity in the Golmuri area.

According to police sources, after his release from jail, Chaudhary had teamed up with his associate Devendra Singh, alias “I Love”, to intimidate local traders and contractors for extortion money.

Many victims reportedly refrained from filing complaints out of fear.

Acting on intelligence inputs, police conducted a targeted raid that led to Chaudhary’s arrest.

During interrogation, he confessed to extorting money in collaboration with Singh, who had supplied the weapon. Based on his disclosure, police recovered the firearm and ammunition.

The accused, Saurabh Chaudhary (35), son of Neki Ram Chaudhary and a resident of Ramdev Bagan, Golmuri, has a long history of serious crimes — including murder, robbery, extortion, armed assaults, and Arms Act violations.

Over 16 criminal cases are registered against him across Sidhgora, Golmuri, MGM, Sonari, and even Jaipur (Rajasthan).

The raid team comprised SHO Sanjay Suman, ASI Gaurav Singh, Rajan Roushan Sinha, Abhay Minz, Vikas Kumar, Ajit Prakash, and other personnel.

Police are now pursuing Devendra Singh, who is absconding.

Officials hailed the arrest as a major success in the ongoing crackdown against organized crime, reaffirming that operations will continue to ensure public safety and restore confidence in law and order.
