Daltonganj, May 14: Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU) is now actively seeking to reclaim 8 acres of its land, including buildings, a playground, water resources, and other infrastructure, currently under the control of the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) 10.

This portion, located in the second half of the GLA College campus in Daltonganj, has been occupied by the battalion for several months.

IRB 10 moved into the area in 2024 after the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which had stationed there for over three decades, vacated the premises.

With the CRPF gone, NPU is asserting its claim over the land and infrastructure, citing the need to expand academic and sports facilities for the university’s growth and development.

VC Appeals to District Administration

Vice Chancellor Dr Prof Dinesh Kumar Singh told this correspondent, “We have written a letter to the DC Shashi Ranjan to ensure our land and other infrastructures are restored to us and the India Reserve Battalion 10 disengages itself from our campus as we need it most in the larger interest of the students, teachers and staff.”

Sources said the copy of the letter to the DC has been forwarded to the HRD Secretary and also to the Raj Bhavan.

This correspondent spoke to the DC Shashi Ranjan who said, “I would send the university letter in this regard to the IG, DIG and SP Palamu.”

Asked if there is any land identified for the India Reserve Battalion 10 to be resettled there to which DC said, “I can’t recollect it so off hand.”

“If and when such a letter comes to us, we will send it to higher officials in the police head quarter,” added the SP.
