Jamshedpur, June 26: East Singhbhum district welfare department has begun the job of bicycle distribution among students studying in class VIII of the government schools across the district.
Over 17,000 bicycles are to be distributed among the girls and boys belonging to scheduled tribe, scheduled caste, OBC and minority communities.
District Welfare Officer, Rajendra Gupta said the bicycles have to be given to the students belonging to the above said categories as early as possible and for this job parts of the bicycles are being assembled in the office premises of each of the 11 blocks in the East Singhbhum district on war footing.
“The distribution of bicycles to the VIII class students is a part of the state government’s welfare scheme being carried out across the state. We are doing our job in the East Singhbhum district accordingly, ” said Gupta while talking to The Jharkhand Story.

The district welfare officer, on being asked, stated that all the students belonging to the minority communities like Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Sikhs will be getting the bicycles, though the students belonging to the Muslim community are to benefit the most.
Significantly, senior VHP leader Sanjay Kumar while taking a potshot into the JMM-led state government scheme of bicycle distribution is a tailored-made scheme to woo the vote bank in the face of the ensuing assembly elections in the state.
“A large number of students belonging to ST, SC and OBC categories are reading in five private-run Saraswati Shishu Mandir schools located in the fringe areas of the steel city. But despite these students do hail from extremely poor financial backgrounds, the state government does hardly think about giving the bicycles to these students,” deplored the VHP leader.
