Daltonganj, October 16: Barring Mahuadanr police sub-division, the three other police sub-divisions of Latehar district, namely Balumath, Barwadih and Latehar, the IG of Police Palamu zone Shailendra Kumar Sinha on Thursday held a review meeting in Latehar.
It was IG Sinha’s maiden review in Latehar ahead of two major celebrations, Diwali and Chhath.
Sources said the IG Sinha would be reviewing the Mahuadanr police sub-division on some other date, as this police sub-division was not a part of Thursday’s review of the IG.

Public Relations and Police Visibility
Taking a cue from the DGP Anurag Gupta, IG Sinha too asked police officers to have good public relation, wherein delay in lodging the FIR has to be shunned and the public be made to feel that police are up and doing. It will instil a sense of trust of the public in the police. IG Sinha just wished there must not be any deficit of trust of commoners in the police.
Response and action of the cops must win the confidence of the public. IG drove his point home.

Festive Vigilance and Safety of Officers
As Dhanteras, Diwali and Chhath are around the corners, police officers were asked to be extra vigilant by way of beefing up police patrols in areas having banks and other commercial institutions.
Police must keep a watch over crowded places amidst the ongoing festivities.
SP Latehar Kumar Gaurav on being asked by this correspondent as to what did the IG Sinha asked the cops who are the most vital visible thing on the ground, to which Gaurav said “Cops need to be sensitised to the scenes.”
Latehar district police have one big thing. It is its visibility. Cops, if visible, help in containing offences more effectively and efficiently than beating the baton against the wall.
Latehar district police have reigned in Naxalism to a large extent. Naxalism is very much down, but not out, nevertheless.
Here, IG Sinha asked the police officers to maintain the edge over the extremism without giving them a single moment or chance to show any aberration, as Naxals have a notoriety of making a presence in any form.

Crackdown on Organized Crime and Sensitive Cases
A debacle in Manatu where two brave cops got martyred in a gun fight with the banned splinter group of Naxals Tirtiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), IG Sinha asked the police officers to take all proper and suitable measures to avert any such tragedy of them.
A safe cop is far more deadly and striking than a cop in a mess. So cops must avoid putting themselves in any mess was the refrain of the IG Sinha.
Sinha asked for an all-out stern action against the operators of organised crime.
Latehar district has two Rahuls, one Rahul Dubey and the other Rahul Singh. The common thing between the two is their proneness to crime. These two Rahuls must be cut short, IG wanted his officers to pin down these two Rahuls.
Cases of POCSO, SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, Arms Act are to be dealt with high priority and professionalism, directed the IG Sinha.
“It was a review meeting and it also doubled up as an introductory meeting of the IG with the sub-divisional police officers and others,” added the SP Latehar.

Reducing Case Pendency
It’s not only the pending cases in the subordinate courts, High Courts and Supreme Court that hit news headlines. Pendency of cases in the police stations also matters most.
The more the pending cases, the more the passivity of the police. Quite invariably, in any review meeting, senior cops always spur police officers to minimise the number of pending cases.
However, cases that have been pending for a year or so have a tendency to prolong the pendency.
