Demand for a stipend hike is on the agenda
Dr Raghvendra Kumar said that the stipend of senior residents, junior residents, postgraduate students and interns in Jharkhand Colleges is less than their counterparts in Bihar, Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and other states. “So, we will urge the health minister to consider it seriously and increase it at par with other states,” he added.
“Reducing the service bond period is the main demand of senior residents. We will urge the health minister to review it,” he added.
Service bond for doctors
In Jharkhand, doctors have to fill up a Rs 30 lakh three-year service bond and the penalty for discontinuing the bond is Rs 20 lakh.
At the same time, it is Rs 25 lakh for a year’s service bond and the penalty for discontinuing the bond is Rs 15 lakh in Bihar.
In Odisha, a service bond is for two years of service and double the amount of stipend received in three years. Discontinued penalty is only Rs 10 lakh.
“So, a joint delegation of all medical colleges will place these figures before the health minister along with other issues for consideration,” said the JDN state secretary.
