Jharkhand News: Plastic surgeon Dr Ajay Kr Singh gets Lifetime Achievement Award

Ranchi, Oct 21: Dr Ajay Kumar Singh, a leading figure in plastic surgery in Bihar and Jharkhand, has been honoured with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the Bihar-Jharkhand Plastic Surgeons Association (BJPSA) for his exceptional 49 years of service (from 1975 to 2024) in the two states.

The award was presented by Dr Subodh Singh during the association’s annual conference, BJAPSCION 2024, held in Jamshedpur. Dr Subodh Singh highlighted Dr Singh’s significant contributions to plastic surgery treatment in his speech.

During the event, Dr Ajay Kumar Singh expressed his commitment to continue guiding both the association and the plastic surgeons of the twin states.

Who is Dr Ajay Kumar Singh?

Dr Ajay Kumar Singh is a recipient of the WOC fellowship in hand surgery from Government Stanley Hospital in Madras and the Ethicon Cosmetic Surgery training fellowship from the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India. He completed his MBBS from Rajendra Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in Ranchi in 1975 and earned his MS in General Surgery in 1980. Subsequently, he pursued an M.Ch in Plastic Surgery as part of the pioneer batch at Patna University.

After obtaining the FAIS and FAIMS certifications, Dr Ajay Kumar Singh joined Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), where he taught in the Plastic Surgery Department from 1982 to 1985. He returned to PMCH to educate students again from 1990 to 1994. Between 1986 and 1990, he also taught surgery students at RMCH Ranchi.

In addition to mentoring doctors in Bihar and Jharkhand, Dr Singh was invited to Himachal Pradesh to conduct a plastic and reconstructive surgery camp alongside Prof. Dr K.S. Goleria.

He is an active member of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India, the World Orthopaedics Concern, and has served as the IMA state secretary (2004-2007) and national vice-president of IMA (2006-2007).

He was also the chairman of the IMA Academy of Medical Specialties (2014-2016) and is involved with the National Academy of Burn and YMCA.

Currently, Dr Singh is a member of the IMA National Advisory Committee at the headquarters in Delhi and serves as the coordinator for the state IMA.
