Daltonganj, July 4: Trackers and daily wagers of the Palamu Tiger Reserve will be covered by the Ayushman card.

Consent to this has been given by Latehar DC Garima Singh.
Confirming this, the deputy director north division of PTR P K Jena said, “The PTR is happy to learn that DC Garima Singh has asked for Ayushman coverage for the entire fleet of the trackers and daily wagers here.”

There are around 400 of them in the PTR, Jena said.

Civil surgeon swings into action
Latehar Civil Surgeon Dr Awadesh Singh told this correspondent today, “We have got a letter to this effect from DC Madam on July 3. Today July 4 we have swung into action.”
“DC madam has asked us to cover the PTR personnel with Ayushman card. We are alerting our three health hubs – 2 CHCs one each at Barwadeeh and Mahuadanr and 1 referral hospital at Garu to coordinate with the rangers/foresters of the PTR of these three regions for the preparation of the Ayushman card for the trackers and daily wagers of the tiger reserve Palamu,” added Dr Awadesh Singh.

“The medical officers in charge of these three health hubs have been told to have time, venue and date fixed for preparation for the Ayushman card of the PTR personnel,” he added.
Ayushman card will be of extreme help: Jena
“Serving in jungles amidst animals like tigers, leopards, hyenas, wolves, bears, elephants, and a variety of deadly snakes has its perils where the Ayushman card will be of extreme help,” reminded P K Jena.
The PTR does take care of its trackers and daily wagers in the event of hazards to life posed by wildlife like elephants.
Elephants have done to death nearly a dozen trackers here in the PTR in the last 50 years of its existence.
Incidentally, there is no recorded case of fatality of humans here by the tiger.
It is said now that tigers are not even in the two-digit figure here so humans are safe but one can’t forget that there was a time in the mid-eighties when the tiger census pegged its number at 62 in this reserve and even then there was no death of humans by the tiger here in the past here in the PTR.
