Ranchi, April 17: Dr. Rose Kerketta, an acclaimed tribal writer, poet, and social activist, passed away on Thursday. Through her writings, she gave a new direction to social discourse and the lived realities of Jharkhand.

Born on December 5, 1940, in Kaisra Sundra Toli village of Simdega district, Dr. Kerketta belonged to the Kharia tribal community. She earned her MA and PhD in Hindi literature.

Throughout her life, Dr. Kerketta worked tirelessly for education, social development, human rights, and the upliftment of tribal women. She was actively associated with organizations such as the Jharkhand National Alliance of Women and the Pyara Kerketta Foundation.

Her literary works powerfully express tribal consciousness, social justice, and feminist themes.

– Pagha Jori-Jori Re Ghato: A Hindi short story collection that explores the complexities of the female psyche.
