Jharkhand News: RIMS Sr residents, Jr docs begin indefinite boycott over Kolkata doctor’s murder

Ranchi, Aug 13: Senior residents, junior doctors and post graduate (PG) students of Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS ) Ranchi today began indefinite boycott of OPD and routine OT in protest against Kolkata trainee lady doctor’s murder in RG Kar Hospital.

5 medical colleges to decide on boycott today evening after candle march

Senior residents and junior residents of the other five medical colleges, including MGMMCH Jamshedpur, SNMMCH Dhanbad, SBMCH Hazaribagh, MMCH  Palamu and PJMCH Dumka will  take out candle march in the evening today and after that they will decide on to join an indefinite boycott from tomorrow.

As pre-announced programme, senior residents, junior residents and PG students reached the hospital under banner of the IMA Junior Doctors Network (JDN) and Junior Doctors Association (JDA) and began an indefinite boycott of their duty from 8.45 am.

JDN president Dr Vikash Kumar, vice-presidents Dr Jaideep Kumar and Dr Ranvijay, JDN president Dr Ankit Kumar, vice-president Dr Abhishek Hansda who were leading the agitation at RIMS said emergency services have been exempted from indefinite boycott and only OPDs and routine OT have been boycotted.

5 demands of Kolkata Junior Doctors’ Association

“The indefinite boycott will continue till all demands of the Kolkata Junior Doctors Association are accepted”, said JDN and JDA leaders.

The main demands of Kolkata doctors are a CBI probe into murder, speedy trial, security arrangement and compensation to the victim’s family.

In the meantime, having seen the massive impact of the boycott on health services, RIMS authorities called both the associations’ leaders to talk to solve the issues.

A meeting of senior residents and junior doctors was also held at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur today over joining the indefinite boycott. JDN state secretary Dr Raghvendra Kumar said that as per the decision senior residents and junior doctors of all five medical colleges will take out a candle march at 6.30 pm.

“After that, we will take a decision of indefinite boycott”, said Dr Raghvendra.

IMA Dhanbad supports agitation

At Dhanbad, SNMMCH senior residents and junior doctors will take out candle march in the evening today at 6.30 pm in protest against the heinous murder of Kolkata trainee doctor.

IMA Dhanbad chapter secretary Dr Rakeshinder Singh said that the doctors’ body condemns the incident and supports the agitation of medical college doctors.
