Jamshedpur, Oct 9: A major daylight theft in Chhota Sijulata village, located on the border of Potka and Rajnagar police station areas, near Jamshedpur, has created panic among locals.

Unidentified thieves broke into the house of school teacher Surekha Satpathy and her husband Ravi Kumar Satpathy, escaping with valuables worth around Rs 17 lakh.

According to reports, the couple had gone to attend their nephew Suraj Nanda’s engagement ceremony at Imperial Resort in Hata on Wednesday.

They left home around 11 a.m., and when they returned at about 5 p.m., they found the main door lock broken.

Inside, both almirahs had been forcibly opened and household items were scattered all over.

The burglars made away with Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, and gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh. The stolen jewellery includes four chains, eleven rings, a necklace, a beauty set, and three pairs of earrings.

Police from Rajnagar station arrived promptly after being informed and have begun investigating the case.

CCTV footages from the surrounding area are being examined to identify the culprits.

Ravi Satpathy expressed outrage, saying, “It’s shocking that thieves have become so fearless that they can strike even in broad daylight on the highway.”
