Ranchi, September 14: Students of the Department of Sanskrit at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University, Ranchi, celebrated Teacher’s Day with great enthusiasm on Friday, September 13. The students expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards their teachers through a series of cultural programs, leaving no stone unturned to honour the guiding lights of their lives.
Cultural performances and tributes
The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the ushering in of knowledge. This was followed by a Vedic invocation by Vijay Raj Nand, setting a serene and auspicious tone for the proceedings. Subsequently, Tanu, Prerna, and Pallavi captivated the audience with their traditional invocation.
Ayush Kumar, a student of the department, took the opportunity to introduce and honour the guests present. The atmosphere was further elevated by the melodious welcome song rendered by Pratima, Raina, Nikita, Varsha, and others.
Speeches and artistic presentations
Surendra Mahto, a student, delivered an eloquent speech highlighting the significance of Teacher’s Day, reminding everyone that “A good teacher is like a candle—it consumes itself to light the way for others.” Following this, Shobha Munda presented a soulful rendition of stotras.
Surabhi Singh, through her recital of shlokas, showcased her profound respect and dedication to the Sanskrit language, leaving the audience spellbound. Anamika Bharti mesmerized everyone with her solo dance performance, an artistic tribute that breathed life into the very essence of the celebration.

Tanu Singh’s devotional song transported the audience into a realm of piety and reverence, adding a deeper spiritual dimension to the event. Anamika Bharti’s poetry recital moved the audience, rekindling the sentiments of respect and gratitude in the hearts of students towards their teachers. The group dancef by Deep Ekka, Anamika, Nikita, and Gudiya infused the programme with new vigour and enthusiasm.
Chief Guest and faculty addresses
The Chief Guest of the programme, Dr. Shailesh Kumar Mishra, a senior teacher from the Government Sanskrit College, in his address, eloquently remarked that teachers, with their knowledge, experience, and guidance, shape the character of students, preparing them to be responsible citizens of society. He underscored the importance of respecting teachers and imbibing their teachings in life, echoing the proverb, “The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet.”
Presiding over the event, Dr. Dhananjay Vasudeo Dwivedi, Head of the Sanskrit Department at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University, emphasized that the aim of education extends beyond merely acquiring certificates; it is about the pursuit of knowledge, character building, and developing a spirit of service to society.
He encouraged students to excel in their educational endeavours, reminding them that “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.”
Dr. Shrimita, a faculty member, highlighted that true education is realized only when its values are integrated into one’s life. She stressed the importance of self-development and self-realization through education, urging students to make learning an integral part of their lives.
Another faculty member Dr. Jagadamba Prasad said, “Teachers are the guiding stars of society,” and without their selfless service, societal progress is unthinkable. He elaborated on the roles teachers’ play—not just as educators, but as mentors, friends, and counsellors, equipping students to face life’s challenges.

The programme concluded on a serene note with a vote of thanks presented by Menka Kumari, followed by the chanting of the Shanti Mantra by Prerna Kumari, leaving the audience with a sense of peace and fulfilment.
The entire event was gracefully anchored by Pratima Chauhan and Shivam Narayan, whose seamless coordination ensured the programme was a resounding success, encapsulating the spirit of Teacher’s Day.
