Daltonganj, May 31: It was a providential escape for a senior citizen Murari Tiwary on whom an abortive bid on his life was made in daylight today by two bike-borne youths.

Inspector cum officer-in-charge of the Town police station Deobrata Poddar told this correspondent that an attempt was made to hurt/ kill Tiwary but luck favoured this senior citizen.

Tiwary was on his bike while the two who had attempted to hurt/kill him were also on a bike.

Assailants engaged Tiwary in conversation

The bike troller intercepted this senior citizen and got him engaged in some little conversation when the pillion rider bulky in size and face uncovered got down from the bike and trained the pistol at Tiwary.

Tiwary’s reflex action was swift and clear. He knew he was in danger and so without any screaming, he pushed the youth having pistol pointed towards him.

The youth with the pistol just jerked and his one-cartridge-loaded magazine fell on the street.

Tiwary’s worst moments were over. The two bike-borne fled from the scene.

Presence of mind helps Murari

Police officer Poddar said the attempt to shoot was foiled and aborted by the senior citizen Murari. His presence of mind helped him.

Town police have recovered the magazine with one loaded cartridge only.

The two fled from the scene with the pistol, added Poddar.

In the meanwhile, a third character appeared at the site. This youth was looking for the fallen magazine when he was overpowered and the police detained him.

The police officer said this detainee had divulged the names of the two who fled after the failed attempt.

About the motive Murari told police that he was surprised as to why this bid on his life was made which was aborted and frustrated by him.

The police officer said that Tiwary had hinted about a long pending land dispute amongst the family itself.

However, Tiwary just couldn’t say with belief that this could be the sole reason behind this bid on his life.

Poddar said police have begun their investigation and the culprits would be caught soon.
