Jamshedpur, Nov 29: The Ghatshila-based Sona Devi University has appointed Prof. (Dr.) Braj Mohan Pat Pingua as its new Vice-Chancellor.
Dr. Pingua, a distinguished senior scientist from CSIR–Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR), Dhanbad, brings decades of academic and research expertise to the institution.
A seasoned researcher, Dr. Pingua has extensive experience as a professor and has made significant contributions in material science, mining engineering, and associated industrial applications.

During his tenure at CIMFR, he played a pivotal role in developing new standard testing processes for mining explosives and high-energetic materials.

He also supervised major excavation projects and multiple research activities.
Dr. Pingua has presented dozens of research papers at national and international forums, facilitated numerous MoUs, and successfully executed several major projects.
His appointment is expected to bolster Sona Devi University’s aspirations in research, innovation, and academic excellence.
The selection was made by a six-member Search-cum-Selection Committee constituted by Chancellor Prabhakar Singh, in accordance with UGC norms and guidelines of the Jharkhand government.
The committee included a UGC representative, the Joint Secretary (Technical Education) of Jharkhand, a Professor from NIT Jamshedpur, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Kolhan University, and a retired judge.

Six professors from various universities across the country participated in the interview process, out of which Dr. Pingua was unanimously chosen.
With his diverse expertise and strong research background, the university anticipates a new era of growth, innovation, and academic advancement under Dr. Pingua’s leadership.
