Jamshedpur, Jan 13: An elderly man who owned a photo studio was shot dead by two bike-borne criminals near his studio at Chandil market in the adjoining Seraikela- Kharsawan district on Monday morning.

Identified as Dilip Gorai (62), the murder victim fell to the assailants’ bullet soon after he had opened his studio at about 10 am today.

As the family members reside at the same premises where the studio was located, they rushed the gunshot victim to Tata Main Hospital — about a 30-minute drive — where the doctors on emergency duty declared him as brought dead.

Two assailants had come on a bike and had fled the scene committing the murder by firing at the victim a single shot from close range.

Possible motive and police statement

Soon after the incident, the police rushed to the spot and tried to identify the assailants by taking CCTV footage of the crime scene.

Chandil thana OC, Dilson Birua said that the murder might have taken place due to old enmity, but nothing else could be ascertained yet.

The murder victim had two wives and six children, two of them from the first wife.

“Maybe the murder was conspired due to a property dispute among the extended family. Otherwise, the man had not any enmity with anyone in the society, ” said Dilson while talking to The Jharkhand Story.

The OC pointed out they are making all efforts to detect the case as soon as possible.

Daughter’s account of the incident

The murder victim’s daughter Sworna said that they stay on the first floor of the building whereas the studio was on the ground floor.

“At about 10 am, I heard a huge sound from the ground floor. On rushing down, I saw two youths running away from the studio. On going over to the studio, I found my father lying on the ground with blood oozing out from his forehead. Lying beside him was a camera. Soon I screamed for help and the next moment, the family members started rushing my father to Tata Main Hospital,” narrated the girl while talking to the newsmen.

Sworna said she was not aware of his father’s enmity with anyone as such.
