Jamshedpur, June 15: On the occasion of World Dengue Day today, Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited (Tata Steel UISL), formerly JUSCO, announced the launch of a comprehensive community engagement drive aimed at combating the menace of dengue, a vector-borne disease.
Community awareness drive to eliminate mosquito breeding sources
Despite the department’s rigorous scientific control activities, including anti-larval treatment, fogging, and widespread awareness campaigns, controlling dengue is not possible without the active involvement of citizens.
To raise awareness, promote prevention, and effectively combat dengue, Tata Steel UISL is organising a special awareness session and will be launching its community awareness drive with the slogan “Palti Maar”.
This initiative encourages citizens to search for and eliminate mosquito breeding sources in and around their homes.
Present on the occasion were Dr. Jujhar Majhi, civil surgeon -cum- CMO, East Singhbhum, R. K. Singh, General Manager, Town O&M and Dr. Vijaya Jha, senior registrar at Tata Main Hospital alongside other government health officers and various schools principal, vice-principals and other authorities.

Key Details of the Campaign
Slogan: “Abki Bar, Palti Maar”
The slogan highlights the importance of regularly inspecting and turning over containers where mosquitoes may breed.
Since the mosquito breeding cycle is only seven days, it is crucial for citizens to perform these inspections weekly to prevent the adult mosquitoes from spreading.
To ensure widespread participation and effectiveness, Tata Steel UISL has invited principals of all schools, NGOs, and community leaders to attend the launch.
These key figures will help disseminate the message throughout the community, ensuring that every citizen is informed and engaged.
Each resident is encouraged to perform the “Palti Maar” activity in their homes and surrounding areas every week.
Participants can protect themselves and their families as responsible citizen by uploading pictures of their inspections through the QR code provided by the campaign and also get a chance to win a gift from Tata Steel UISL.
Moreover, over 300 banners will be placed across the city to raise awareness about the importance of preventing mosquito breeding.
Live samples of mosquito larvae and pupae at various stages will be displayed to help participants understand the mosquito life cycle and the critical points for intervention.
Community participation is paramount in the fight against dengue. While the Public Health and Sanitation (PHS) department will continue its scientific control measures, the combined efforts of the community can significantly enhance the effectiveness of these measures.
Each resident taking responsibility to remove sources of container breeding weekly will drastically reduce the mosquito population, thereby reducing the incidence of dengue.
