Jamshedpur, Oct 3: In a significant breakthrough, the police arrested two persons, including a woman with 113.44 grams of “brown sugar” from Adityapur Muslim Bustee under Adityapur police station area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Thursday.

The cost of the seized narcotic drugs was estimated to be Rs 22.68 lakhs.

Those arrested were identified as Sahbaz Khan alias Guddu son of Kadim Khan (19) and Asuran Bibi, (40), wife of Late Jahiruddin Masudi, both residents of H-Road in Adityapur Muslim Bustee.

Apart from seizing the drugs, the police have confiscated Rs 1,49,780 and a smartphone from the possession of the arrested persons.

Police raid against drug peddlers

Revealing about the breakthrough, Seraikela-Kharsawan SP, Mukesh Lunayat said that he got a tip-off that some people are indulged in running a racket of brown sugar in the infamous Adityapur Muslim Bustee.

“Soon after getting the information, we set up a team to carry out raid at the houses of the drug peddlers. The team led by the Adityapur thana OC, Rajiv Ranjan Singh conducted the raid successfully and arrested the two with the haul of brown sugar, ” Lunayat said while briefing the newsmen at the police office in Adityapur on Thursday afternoon.

Over dozen peddlers nabbed since new SP took charge

It may be mentioned here that Adityapur Muslim Bustee has turned into a drug hub where both men and women sell brown sugar with impunity. But after Lunayat joined as the SP in the district, things have started to change for the better.

Ever since the new SP took charge of the Seraikela-Kharsawan district two months ago, over a dozen drug peddlers have been arrested from the Adityapur Muslim Bustee.
