Jamshedpur, Nov 27: In a breakthrough against the drug menace, the police have arrested two drug smugglers from Adityapur Muslim Bustee under the Adityapur thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
While carrying out the arrests, the police recovered 29.25 grams of brown sugar, Rs 89,700 cash and two mobile phones from the possession of the accused.
Identified as Mohammed Sarique and Sartaz Ansari, the duo were arrested on Tuesday morning while they were busy in a transaction of the consignment of brown sugar.
Revealing about the breakthrough, Seraikela SDPO Samir Kumar Sebaiya said that the police had got a tip-off that both Sarique and Sartaz would be delivering the drugs at the Adityapur Muslim Bustee on Tuesday between 6.00 am and 9.00 am.

“Having got the information, the Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Mukesh Lunayet had set up a team to raid the place. Accordingly, the team led by the Adityapur thana OC, Rajiv Kumar Singh raided a place on H-Road in Adityapur Muslim Bustee and nabbed the two smugglers,” said the SDPO while briefing the newsmen on Wednesday.
Sebaiya said during the interrogation, the two arrested persons divulged that they were running the drug supply racket at the behest of Saddam Khan presently lodged in the Seraikela Divisional Jail.
“Saddam Khan who is lodged in the jail for the charges of grievous crimes including murder had forced Sarique and Sartaz to carry out the drug supply activity. Despite remaining in the jail Saddam had allegedly threatened the duo with dire consequences if they do not follow the dictate,” the SDPO quoted the two arrested persons as saying during the press briefing.
The two arrested persons were forwarded to the Seraikela jail in the afternoon.
