Daltonganj, Nov 27: The Naxals have repeated their cowardice in Palamu, which they used to do in the late nineties.

The dastardly act was the Naxals using the human shield then. A human shield is where Naxals put up women and children in front of them just to duck bullets from the police.

Villagers used to resent it much. They used to question Naxals to explain their cowardice.

Naxals of the banned splinter group JJMP made a repeat of the human shield in a remote part of the Latehar district. Naxals escaped under the cover of women and children.

“The ultras of the JJMP took the human shield of women and children. They fired some stray shots,” said Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav.

A human shield of the Naxals is the first sign of Naxals’ disorientation and disability for any offence.

Police recover weapons and ammunition

Latehar district police made the JJMP ultras do it. It’s no less than a big cutting edge on the Naxals.

Gaurav said, “We have recovered one SLR, one Insaas rifle and one semi-automatic rifle of the JJMP along with different bores of ammunition of around 200 rounds.”

The SP reiterated, “It’s not an encounter in the strictest sense. The JJMP ultras were outnumbered and outwitted by the police.”

There was a precise tip-off. The zeroing was not accidental but a planned one. The JJMP ultras were just caught unaware, said sources.

“Our zeroing on the JJMP ultras was so swift and precise that they had neither the courage nor the time to exchange any short-time fire with us,” reiterated Gaurav.

Human shield acts as a restraint for police

The Latehar SP added, “The JJMP ultras knew their escape would be perilous so they took women and children and made an impromptu human shield”.

The human shield came as a big restraint for the police, he said. A villager’s cow has sustained firearms injury. But whose shot it was- Naxals or the police?

Baijnath led the JJMP ultras

This is the first of its kind here under Herhunj police station limits when the JJMP ultras made a human cover to save their lives from the police. The ultras used this human cover for a little over 1 km range.

The Latehar SP informed that the district police, which were the first to take on the JJMP ultras, were later joined by the contingent of the CRPF.

Two JJMP ultras arrested

“There is no injury on the police or CRPF side. And there is also no sign of the JJMP ultras sustaining any injury,” added Gaurav.

Two of them were arrested. The JJMP will have to explain to the villagers for putting innocent people in danger of their lives in the most selfish act of them.
