Jamshedpur, June 25: A case of abduction involving two minor girls has been reported from the Golmuri area of Jamshedpur.

Acting on a written complaint filed by the families on June 24, police have registered a case under IPC Sections 363, 366A, and relevant provisions of the POCSO Act.

According to police sources, the incident took place on the evening of June 23, when the two girls, aged 15 and 17, left home around 6 pm and did not return.

A frantic search by their families later led to the information that the girls were allegedly lured away by one Sumit Mandal, a resident of Kolebira in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district, along with two unidentified accomplices.

Police believe the girls were abducted under the pretext of marriage. “Given that both girls are underage, the case is being treated with utmost seriousness. It could potentially involve trafficking or exploitation,” said a senior police official.

The main accused, Sumit Mandal, has been named along with two others. A special investigation team has been formed to track the accused using both technical and manual methods.

Call records and mobile phone locations are being analyzed to trace the whereabouts of the girls.

Golmuri police station in-charge said, “In view of the sensitivity of the case, we are leaving no stone unturned. We are confident of tracing the girls and arresting the accused soon.”

Preliminary investigations suggest the abduction was a premeditated act, with the accused known to the victims.

The simultaneous disappearance of both girls and the manner of their departure have raised suspicions of a planned escape.

The families of the victims are in deep distress and have urged authorities to ensure the safe return of the girls at the earliest.
