Jamshedpur, Feb 22: Two youths were lynched by villagers after allegedly attempting to steal goats from a house in the Chakulia thana area, under the Ghatsila sub-division, about 70 km from here. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday.

One Killed on the Spot, Another Dies in Hospital

One of the youths, identified as Kinsuk Behera, died on the spot, while the other, Bhola Nath Mahto, succumbed to his injuries at MGM Medical College Hospital later that morning.

Where and When the Incident Took Place

The brutal incident occurred at Jorsa village, approximately 15 km from Chakulia police station and 70 km from Jamshedpur, around 2:30 a.m. today.

How the Lynching Unfolded

The two suspects, residents of Jeeerapara village in Chakulia, were caught attempting to steal two goats from a house. Upon catching them, the house owner alerted other villagers, who soon gathered and held the suspects captive. The mob then beat them mercilessly with sticks, resulting in Behera’s death on the spot.

After his death, the villagers stopped beating Mahto, but by then, it was too late.

Police Response and Investigation

Upon receiving information about the incident, police arrived at the scene and rushed the critically injured Mahto to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

SP (Rural) Rishabh Garg confirmed the lynching deaths in Chakulia.

“We have taken several people involved in the lynching into custody, and more arrests are likely,” Garg told The Jharkhand Story.
