Ranchi, April 14: Casual employees of Union Bank of India across Jharkhand held a day-long dharna at the bank’s regional office in Ranchi, demanding the regularization of their jobs and other key rights.
The protest was organized by the Jharkhand State Union Bank Employees Association (JSUBEA) following a nationwide call by the All India Union Bank Federation (AIUBF). The demonstration coincided with the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, emphasizing the demand for social and economic justice for casual workers.

JSUBEA general secretary M.L. Singh said the protest was aimed at pressing four main demands: regularization of casual jobs, payment of minimum wages, implementation of ‘equal pay for equal work,’ and the provision of bonuses to casual workers.

Casual staff from Union Bank branches across all districts participated in the protest. Addressing the gathering, M.L. Singh highlighted the long-standing neglect of casual employees and reiterated the commitment of the national federation to their cause.

Several trade union leaders and bank representatives also joined the protest in solidarity. Among those who addressed the gathering were K.R. Choudhary, Asim Mukherjee, Jharkhand-Bihar Bank of India Employees Union, Deepak Kumar of Punjab National Bank Staff Union, Yogendra Kumar Mahto (General Secretary, RDBEU), Chhotelal Ram (former President, Union Bank SC/ST Council), Anirman Bose (Treasurer, CITU), R.K. Singh, Deepak Kumar, Ratan Kumar, Amlen Wading, and A.N. Jha.
