Jharkhand News: Union Cabinet approves Jamshedpur-Purulia-Asansol third line project

Jamshedpur, August 29: In an attempt to bolster the connectivity and speed up the movement of goods and passenger traffic, the Union cabinet on Wednesday approved the ambitious Jamshedpur-Purulia-Asansol third line project measuring 121 Km at a total cost of Rs 2,170 crore.

This newly approved project will strengthen a critical link in the railway network between West Bengal and Jharkhand.

The 3rd line project will cover the districts of Purulia and Bardhhaman in West Bengal and East Singhbhum in Jharkhand.

The Jamshedpur-Asansol third line project will include 17 stations in West Bengal and 2 stations in Jharkhand.

The new third line will pass through 18 major bridges and 142 minor bridges. The project is expected to be completed in five years.

Railway officials while interacting with The Jharkhand Story said the multi-crore project will improve connectivity between major trunk routes, Delhi-Howrah and Howrah-Mumbai

The third line would expedite the transportation of iron-ore and coal to the Steel plants at Burnpur and Durgapur and finished steel movement from the plants.

The project is in the vicinity of tourist destinations- Maithan Dam, Churilia and pilgrimage centres-KaIyaneswari Temple and Ghagar Buri Chandi Temple.
