Daltonganj, Jan 9: Particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTG) spread across 167 hamlets in 15 blocks with little over 14000 head counts, and 4000 plus households are getting medical assistance at their doorstep.

The medical teams are reaching them irrespective of the routes’ hazards and the weather’s inclemency.

PVTG is now the PM JANMAN’s (Janjatiya Adivasi Nayaya Maha Abhiyan) focal point,

DC Shashi Ranjan has cracked a whip, asking Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar to ensure screening, testing, and diagnosis to start treatment where the PVTG has health issues.

According to the civil surgeon,  till January 7, 123 camps for the screening and test of the PVTG have been done. 61 more camps are to be held.

Exuding hope, Dr Anil Kumar said, “The DC has set a deadline for screening, testing, and making of Ayushman card for the PVTG, which is February 15. I have asked my teams to meet this deadline by February 10.”

“I will have five days more to make good if any leakage or deficiency is found. I am committed to meeting the DC deadline. My teams are working,” reiterated the civil surgeon.

The screening is for non-communicable diseases. The test is for sickle cell anaemia and TB. BP is also measured.

Dr Anil Kumar said, “Eyesight is being tested. Our assistant ophthalmologist is there to do this. In the event of mature cataract, all arrangements are to be made for surgery.”

The civil surgeon said immature cataracts are not to be operated upon. He added that the PVTG people have been made to understand it, and they have been assured of free and trouble-free cataract surgery if and when required.

1355 sickle cell anaemia tests have been done on the PVTG, of which two have been found positive in the Chainpur block.

There are cases of anaemia. 32 PVTG were tested for Hb at Salaiyya, a hard-to-reach hamlet, and there six were found anaemic. They have been counselled to eat more and more saag. Palak saag is a good iron veggie, reminded Dr Anil Kumar.

8000 kits are in stock for the sickle cell anaemia test. The community health centres, 10, in Palamu have kits for the sickle cell anaemia test.

Dr Anil Kumar said PVTG people in the 19-plus age group are tested for sickle cell anaemia in the outreach, while for children and babies, it is to be done right in the MMCH Daltonganj.

The civil surgeon said no positive TB case has been found in any of the 969 members of the PVTG. However, he told the PVTG people have been counselled to be aware of their cold and cough if it persists for over two weeks. Respective ANMs have been asked to monitor it, said Dr Anil Kumar.

3639 PVTG members have been screened, and it is going on for NCD, which is a non-communicable disease.

He said our teams are climbing hills and hillocks and pitching on cots provided by the PVTG family in hard-to-reach locations to deliver medical assistance.

He said there is a standing order for a day-to-day review of the medical outreach in the hamlets of the PVTG. DPM Deepak Kumar Gupta and his deputy Alok do a positive review of the day’s outreach in the evening.

Dr Anil Kumar said, “The PVTG people are health-conscious and cooperative. They come out and reach our camp. Our camp is simple. My health personnel sit on the ground, rock and cot given by the PVTG family.”

“Our health personnel are promoting bonds with the most overlooked people, PVTG. It’s my clear instruction to all the team members to provide as much medical assistance as possible. There must not be any laxity,” the civil surgeon said.

Palamu’s blocks, like Pipra, Pandwa More, Haidernagar, Tarhassi, etc., have no hamlet of the PVTG. There is just one hamlet in Lesliganj block. Hussainabad block has a high pitch for the PVTG.

It’s the Ayushman card for the PVTG that is a real challenge. The civil surgeon said one of the prime concerns is to cover PVTG with an Ayushman card.

Here we are to work very hard. 942 people have come so far in the pipeline of the Ayushman card. He agreed more thrust is wanted here.

He said the district programme coordinator had been tasked to see the mismatching of names in the Aadhar cards and ration cards of the PVTG members, which does not come in the way of Ayushman card making.

Health and wellness centres have been rechristened now to be known as Ayushman Arogya Mandir, informed Dr Anil Kumar. Medical services are being further fine-tuned in these Ayushman Arogya Mandir.

Sources said there would be a fresh coat for writing Ayushman Arogya Mandir on the existing 80 health and wellness centres in Palamu now.
