Jamshedpur, Jan 20: Seraikela-Kharsawan district police have decided to enforce the half-blackening of bright LED headlights in automobiles in view of curbing road mishaps in the district.

The Seraikela-Kharsawan SP Vimal Kumar announced about the step while participating in an event of “Run For Safety” organised by the district administration at Seraikela on Saturday morning.

Run For Saftey

The “Run For Safety” which was kicked off from Inter-stadium premises near Seraikela Guest House was participated by over 200 students, aiming at spreading awareness among the people about how to remain safe while negotiating through the roads which are getting increasingly accident-prone.

Seraikela-Kharsawan Deputy Commissioner (DC), Ravi Shankar Shukla and SP Vimal Kumar flagged off the run which reached Birsa Munda Stadium having covered the two-km-long stretch.

Wear helmets, use seat-belts: DC

Addressing on the occasion at the Birsa Munda Stadium, the DC Ravi Shankar Shukla said that the incidents of road mishaps have increased in recent years and called upon the people, including the vehicle riders to follow the necessary safety measures like wearing helmets and using seat-belts.

“Those riding a two-wheeler or travelling in four-wheelers run the risk of road mishaps. You will be able to survive a mishap if you will follow the safety measures, ” observed the Deputy Commissioner while addressing the gathering.

Blinding LED headlights

Speaking on the occasion, the SP, Vimal Kumar stressed on adhering to traffic safety measures to be followed by the commuters whenever on the road.

The senior police officer said he had received suggestions from a number of sources about the powerful bright LED headlights being used by car and SUV owners nowadays, which is one of the main reasons behind the increasing number of road mishaps.

“Powerful beams of the bright LED headlights cause the eyes of the commuters coming from opposite directions to get blurred, running the risk of falling victim to mishaps.  We have, therefore, decided to enforce half-blackening of such headlights in Seraikela-Kharsawan so that the commuters, in general, may not have to face such difficulties, ” said Vimal Kumar.

Later speaking to The Jharkhand Story, the Seraikela-Kharsawan SP said that they would shortly launch a drive to get the LED headlights half-blackened, adding that no vehicle owner would be spared.
