Jharkhand Sports: Title favourites advance to semifinals of under-19 badminton championship

Dhanbad, September 18: Title favourites Krish Dubey, Niraj Keshri, Abu Raiyan, and Suraj Pratap Singh have all advanced to the semifinals of the Yonex Sunrise State Under-19 Badminton Championship at the Badminton Training Centre in Jamshedpur.

In the boys’ singles quarterfinals, Niraj Keshri of Ranchi defeated Sujal Rakshit of Dhanbad 21-10, 21-11. Krish Dubey of Jamshedpur overcame Yuvraj Kumar of Ranchi 21-17, 21-13. Abu Raiyan of Hazaribagh won against Pratyush Rathore of Jamshedpur 21-09, 21-16.

In the girls’ singles, defending champion Sarah Sharma, along with Yogita Bora, Vaibhavi Maan, and Ananya Singh, have secured their spots in the semifinals.

Sarah Sharma of Jamshedpur defeated Debadrita Bagchi of Dhanbad 21-08, 21-07. Yogita Bora of Ranchi won against Anamika Ghosh of Dhanbad 21-06, 21-07. Vaibhavi Maan of Dhanbad beat Samridhi Hembrom of West Singhbhum 21-12, 21-13, and Ananya Singh of Ranchi triumphed over Pihu Singh of Dhanbad 21-09, 21-05.

Exciting match of the day

The most thrilling match of the day was the fourth quarterfinal between Suraj Pratap Singh and Raunak Negi, both from Jamshedpur. Raunak Negi won the first set 21-15, but Suraj Pratap fought back to win the second set 24-22. In the deciding set, Suraj Pratap emerged victorious with a score of 21-15, securing his place in the semifinals.

Boys’ doubles

In the boys’ doubles event, the Ranchi pair of Amaan Rahman and Ayaan Rahman secured a semifinal berth by defeating Navin Kumar and Vivek Oraon of Lohardagga 21-09, 21-17.

The Dhanbad duo of Sujal Rakshit and Udit Dayal won against Abu Raiyan and Deepak Mahto 21-17, 21-18.

The Ranchi-Gumla pair of Niraj Keshri and Sachin Gope beat the Jamshedpur team of Krish Dubey and Suraj Pratap 23-21, 21-15. Additionally, Ankit Gope and Yuvraj Kumar of Ranchi defeated Kunal Patel and Raunak Negi 18-21, 21-18, 21-18.

Mixed doubles

In mixed doubles, the defending pair of Niraj Keshri and Sarah Sharma advanced to the semifinals by defeating Udit Dayal and Vaibhavi Maan of Dhanbad 21-09, 21-13. Adarsh Kumar and Bhumi Ekghara of Giridih received a walkover.

Yuvraj Kumar and Yogita Bora of Ranchi won against Yash Bardhan and Sharon E Kujur 21-16, 21-13. The pair of Krishan Gope and Aastika Singh triumphed over Pratham Sethi and Kritika Krishna 21-11, 21-07.

National, state panel referees

The championship is being officiated by national and state panel referees under the convener Avinash Kumar of Ranchi.

Other referees include Barun Kumar (Match Controller), Dhanbad’s Abhishek Kumar and Mintoo Vishwakarma, Ramgarh’s Akash Kumar, Jamshedpur’s Smrita Patel, Priyanka Kumari, Chandan Kumar and Ashutosh Kumar.
