Ranchi, Dec 8: It was a dream come true for a tribal boy from a remote village in Jharkhand when he received a degree with distinction from a university in London.
Meet Ajay Hembrom, a resident of Bhatin village in the Potka block of East Singhbhum district.
He was one of the 51 students selected to get a scholarship for pursuing higher studies in a university abroad under the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Overseas Scholarship Scheme, a dream project of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, launched in 2021.
Ajay was pursuing a postgraduate course in design management from Ravensboume University in London.
The scholarship scheme covers talented students from tribal, SC, OBC and minority communities.

Soren launched the programme to bring before the world the talent of the hardworking and promising tribal, backward and minority children of the deprived and exploited society of Jharkhand.
Ajay is elated. “Even though I studied for a degree, the credit for it goes to Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Welfare Minister Champai Soren, who allowed youth like us to shine on the global stage through the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda International Scholarship Scheme,” he said.

“Now we will try to create a better image of our society, state and country among the people here,” Ajay assured.

The chief minister, in a tweet, said, “Respected Baba Dishom Guruji says that when the youth of poor and deprived society get education opportunities, then not only they but their home, village and society also progress. May you always keep touching the heights of success with your hard work and dedication.”
He wished Ajay a bright future and congratulated him.
Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Scheme
Notably, under the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Overseas Scholarship Scheme, 50 young men and women of the state have received, or are doing, higher education in various universities in Britain at government expenses. Among those who have completed their studies, some are working abroad and some are working in higher institutions in the country. The state government is providing 100 percent scholarships to all of them.
