PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Aug 12: IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued a forecast of thundershowers and lightning in isolated pockets of Jharkhand today.

The Met centre ruled out the possibility of heavy rain today.

Last night several places in southern Jharkhand including Jamshedpur witnessed thundershowers and lightning.

The sharp showers resulted in water logging at several low-lying areas.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Sri Ganganagar, Delhi, Orai, Sidhi, Digha and thence east-southeastwards to northeast Bay of Bengal.

A trough runs from the cyclonic circulation over northeast Rajasthan to Bangladesh across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.

Statistics revealed that against a normal of 616 mm, the state has so far received 528 mm, resulting in a deficit of 14 per cent.

Palamu, Bokaro, Simdega, Ranchi, Latehar, Sahebganj, Dhanbad and Khunti recorded normal rainfall.
