Dhanbad, Feb 24: Jharkhand secured the first position for its presentation on forest and biodiversity awareness and security at the 16th National Convention of SANCALP 2025. The two-day event was held at the Indian Institute of Bio-Social Research and Development in Kolkata on February 21-22.

Outstanding Achievements in Forest and Biodiversity Management

In addition to the top spot in forest awareness and security, Jharkhand also earned the fourth position in the country for its exemplary management and working skills in various biodiversity committees.

The state’s efforts were showcased through presentations by members of the Jharkhand Biodiversity Board (JBDB), detailing plans and actions taken for the conservation of biodiversity heritage sites, preservation of traditional herbal plants, and education initiatives.

Pride for the State

Sanjeev Kumar, Member Secretary of the Jharkhand Biodiversity Board and Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF), expressed pride over the state’s achievement.

He stated, “It is a matter of great pride for the state to secure the first position in the country. This award is a testament to the recognition of Jharkhand’s efforts in the field of biodiversity by experts across the nation.”

Conservation and Awareness Initiatives

The Jharkhand Biodiversity Board has been preparing for the awareness program since September 2024, identifying 105 heritage sites across the state for the conservation of herbal plants and other biodiversity elements.

As part of this initiative, the Board organized training for members of the Biodiversity Committee (BCM) at IBRAD in Kolkata, and also trained BCM members from Chaibasa, particularly from the Meghahatu Buru North Biodiversity Management Committee in the Saranda Forest area.

These members also presented their efforts in preserving herbal plants and educating local communities on their importance.
