Tlaxcala, Oct 21: India’s seasoned archer Deepika Kumari who hails from Jharkhand earned a silver medal in the women’s recurve event at the Archery World Cup final in Mexico on Sunday.

This marks Deepika’s sixth medal in the Archery World Cup finals and her first since becoming a mother in 2022. The Indian archer has finished as runner-up five times—in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2024—and claimed a bronze in 2018.

The 30-year-old archer, who also participated in the Paris Olympics, lost 0-6 to China’s Li Jiaman in the final match.

In the quarterfinals, Deepika secured a 6-0 straight-set victory over Yang Xiaolei who was Jiaman’s teammate from the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Deepika advanced with a hard-fought victory against Mexico’s Alejandra Valencia, a member of the mixed team that won bronze at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Archery World Cup final showcased eight archers in both the men’s and women’s divisions across recurve and compound events.
