Jamshedpur Aug 18: Senior JMM leader and former chief minister Champai Soren is all set to join BJP.

The former CM, who is better known as Kolhan Tiger for his well-fortified tribal-oriented leadership across the twin districts of Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan has left for New Delhi along with over half-a-dozen legislators of the JMM.

According to JMM sources, Champai Soren had first gone over to Calcutta along with his party’s MLAs on Saturday evening.

The sources said in Calcutta, Soren attended a meeting with some senior BJP leaders in the night and in the morning he took a flight to New Delhi along with the legislators.

The sources revealed that in New Delhi, the former chief minister will attend a meeting with the BJP’s top leaders for formerly joining the saffron party.

About 10 JMM legislators accompany Champai to Delhi

JMM’s central committee member, Birendra Pradhan confirmed the information about Champai Soren going to New Delhi to join BJP.

“The former chief minister Champai Soren has gone to New Delhi to join the BJP. About 10 legislators from the JMM have also accompanied him to New Delhi, ” Pradhan said while replying to the queries by The Jharkhand Story.

Champai Soren was made chief minister of Jharkhand after Hemant Soren was arrested and sent to jail for allegedly being involved in a land scam. But after Hemant Soren was released from jail on bail, Champai Soren was dislodged from the chief minister’s post.

Champai Soren who had earned a reputation as an effective chief minister during his short span of five months had apparently distanced himself from Hemant Soren as he was not given a suitable portfolio in the subsequent Hemant Soren-led government.

Political sources maintain that in the event of Champai Soren joining the BJP, Hemant Soren’s government will be in trouble.
