Ranchi, Nov 29: In a major initiative aimed at improving healthcare services for senior citizens, Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad of the Jharkhand High Court and Executive Chairperson of the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) inaugurated the newly established Mother Teresa Clinic at the Vihar Samaj Kalyan Sansthan Old Age Home in Piska Nagri, Ranchi, on Saturday.

The clinic has been set up to provide timely medical assistance and essential healthcare facilities to elderly residents living in old-age homes.

Statewide Legal Awareness and Welfare Drive

The inauguration took place during a state-level legal awareness camp organised by JHALSA, which connected all old-age homes across Jharkhand through a virtual platform.

Presiding officers and secretaries of District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) from various districts joined the programme online.

The main event was held at the Nagri old-age home, where JHALSA Member Secretary Ranjana Asthana, Ranchi Deputy Commissioner, Rural SP, Civil Surgeon and senior officials from multiple departments were present.

As part of the welfare outreach, Justice Prasad distributed sweaters, slippers, blankets and hearing aid devices to elderly residents to ensure comfort and safety during the winter season.

‘Timely Healthcare Is Essential for Senior Citizens’

Addressing the gathering, Justice Prasad emphasised the importance of accessible healthcare for the elderly.

He directed DLSA officials to ensure regular medical check-ups and monitoring at all old-age homes so that “no senior citizen is deprived of immediate medical assistance.”

He also interacted virtually with residents of the old-age home at Hesag, Hatia, enquiring about their health, living conditions and access to medical facilities.

Justice Prasad appealed to society to show empathy and responsibility towards senior citizens.
“Everyone has to pass through this stage of life one day. Serving the elderly is equivalent to serving the divine,” he said.

According to JHALSA, judges across all districts simultaneously visited old-age homes and distributed essential items while ensuring eligible beneficiaries received access to various government schemes. More than 500 senior citizens were covered under Friday’s outreach.

In her welcome address, Member Secretary Ranjana Asthana thanked all partner agencies and highlighted JHALSA’s ongoing campaigns for the welfare and awareness of senior citizens under the guidance of the Executive Chairperson.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Ranchi Deputy Commissioner.
