Mumbai, April 4: Veteran actor Manoj Kumar passed away at the age of 87. He breathed his last on Friday at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. According to reports, Manoj Kumar had been battling age-related ailments for a long time.

Manoj Kumar was also known as ‘Bharat Kumar.’ Besides being an actor, he was a film director as well. He was especially recognized for his patriotism, having starred in several patriotic films like Kranti and Upkar. His passing has left Bollywood and the entire nation in mourning.
Manoj Kumar’s son, Kunal Goswami, informed that his father’s last rites will be performed on Saturday, April 5, at 12 noon in Vile Parle, Mumbai. His mortal remains will be taken to their residence in Juhu.

Manoj Kumar’s Cinematic Journey
Manoj Kumar was born on July 24, 1937, in present-day Pakistan. His real name was Harikishan Giri Goswami. He began his career in 1957 with the film Fashion, but it was the 1965 film Shaheed that gave his career a significant breakthrough.
His patriotic films and songs earned him a distinct place in Indian cinema. In recognition of his contributions, he was honored with the Padma Shri in 1992 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.
Manoj Kumar both acted in and directed several patriotic films, including Shaheed (1965), Upkar (1967), Purab Aur Paschim (1970), and Roti Kapda Aur Makaan (1974).
Beyond patriotic films, he also acted in and directed several acclaimed movies such as Hariyali Aur Rasta, Woh Kaun Thi, Himalaya Ki God Mein, Do Badan, Patthar Ke Sanam, Neel Kamal, and Kranti.

PM Modi expresses condolences
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and many others have expressed their condolences on the passing of Manoj Kumar.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of legendary actor and filmmaker Shri Manoj Kumar Ji. He was an icon of Indian cinema, who was particularly remembered for his patriotic zeal, which was also reflected in his films. Manoj Ji’s works ignited a spirit of national pride and will continue to inspire generations. My thoughts are with his family and admirers in this hour of grief. Om Shanti,” PM Modi posted on X.
