Jamshedpur, Nov 3: A 50-year-old man was grievously injured as he jumped off a running Mumbai-Howrah Geetanjali Express near Ghatsila station in the Tata-Ghatsila railway section on Friday.
Identified as Bipelesh Mishra, the man jumped from the running train out of impulse as the train had slowed down at the Ghatsila station.
Mishra who is originally a resident of Patna stays at Surda near Ghatsila where he works in a copper mine.
As a result of the impetuous act, the unfortunate train passenger sustained multiple fractures in his hands and legs.
Coming to know about the incident, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel promptly rescued the victim and rushed him to Ghatsila sub-divisional hospital. The injured was subsequently shifted to MGM Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
A close relative of the injured while talking to this correspondent said he is not aware exactly where Bipelesh Mishra was coming from, but it is certain that the victim had jumped from the running train out of impulse.
“As the next stoppage of the Geetanjali Express is at Kharagpur only, Bipelesh might have thought to get down from the train when its speed slows down while passing Ghatsila station because Surda where he stays is not far away from the Ghatsila station, ” said Sushant Sahu, the relative of the victim.
There is no stoppage for the Geetanjali Express at Ghatsila station, but any long-distance express train like the Geetanjali Express slows down, running at a maximum speed of 30 kmph.
