Jamshedpur, Nov 1: In its quest to constantly improve patient care, Meherbai Tata Memorial Hospital (MTMH) has installed a state-of-the-art mammography machine with Tomosynthesis in its diagnostic centre.

The machine was inaugurated by Atrayee Sanyal, Vice President of Human Resource Management, Tata Steel in the presence of Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel.

Dr Sujata Mitra, director, MTMH highlighted the advantage of this high-end machine, which will improve the accuracy of testing for suspected breast cancer.

Mammography is the recommended method for breast cancer screening. With the introduction of new machine, improved accuracy will result in better disease detection.

The inauguration of the mammography machine is part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month which concluded on October  31.

During the month various initiatives were undertaken including awareness talks and sessions on various media platforms and free screening of women journalists for breast cancer.

MTMH, a trust hospital at Jamshedpur was established in 1975 to cater to cancer patients of this region.

It is named after Lady Meherbai Tata, wife of Sir Dorabji Jamshedji Tata. In 2017, Tata Trusts approved a project to upgrade MTMH from a 72-bed cancer hospital to a comprehensive 128-bed cancer care facility through investment in civil infrastructure and equipment.

MTMH accepts patients under the PM-JAY (Ayushman Bharat) scheme. Many patients are also supported through Mukhyamantri Gambhir Bimari Yojana.

Besides these, corporates and individuals support poor patients through generous donations (KMCO Trust, Suri Seva Foundation, Jamshedpur Continuous Annealing & Processing Company Private Limited, Tinplate to name a few).

The endeavour of MTMH is to ensure that no cancer patient suffers due to lack of fund and it is able to do so because of the immense support from Jamshedpur society.
