Chief coach Vijay Sharma had set the goal of crossing the 200kg barrier and restoring Chanu’s previous strength levels in the 49kg class, and her solid clean and jerk series kept her close to that mark.

The gold medal went to North Korea’s Ri Song Gum, who dominated with a world-record-breaking 213kg total (91kg snatch + 122kg clean and jerk), while Thailand’s Thanyathon Sukcharoen bagged bronze with 198kg (88kg + 110kg).
