Forde, Oct 3: Indian weightlifting star Mirabai Chanu returned to the podium at the World Championships in Norway, securing a silver medal in the 48kg category with a combined lift of 199kg.

Chanu endured a shaky start in snatch, failing twice at 87kg and managing 84kg, but she regained momentum in the clean and jerk, where she flawlessly executed lifts of 109kg, 112kg and 115kg.

Chief coach Vijay Sharma had set the goal of crossing the 200kg barrier and restoring Chanu’s previous strength levels in the 49kg class, and her solid clean and jerk series kept her close to that mark.

The gold medal went to North Korea’s Ri Song Gum, who dominated with a world-record-breaking 213kg total (91kg snatch + 122kg clean and jerk), while Thailand’s Thanyathon Sukcharoen bagged bronze with 198kg (88kg + 110kg).
