Jamshedpur, June 21: It’s official. The much-awaited southwest monsoon has set in over Jharkhand today after a delay of six days.
IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre issued a special bulletin declaring the onset of monsoon in Jharkhand.
The normal arrival date of monsoon in Jharkhand was June 15.
The special bulletin said the monsoon covered Sahibganj and Pakur districts.
“Southwest monsoon has set in over Jharkhand today. The Northern Limit of Monsoon was passing through Jharsuguda, Balasore, Haldia, Pakur and Sahibganj,” said Abhishek Anand, head of Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

He said that conditions are favourable for further advancement of southwest monsoon into some more parts of North Arabian Sea, Gujarat State, remaining parts of Maharashtra, some more parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and some parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh during next three to four days.
Though monsoon has arrived in Jharkhand but its movement is slow. It will take another two to three days for the monsoon currents to cover the entire state.
According to weathermen, a few isolated areas in north-eastern Jharkhand are expected to experience heavy showers in the next 48 hours.
